5 Important Changes To Make To Your Diet To Stay Healthy

The most important lesson we have learned during this devastating global pandemic is that we should never take our health for granted. Most of us have lulled ourselves into a false sense of security by eating a salad once a week and thinking that our job is done… I mean, salad is healthy – right?

The thing about our health is that as we get older, our bodies change and our needs change too. We need to be constantly evaluating our choices and lifestyles, just to make sure that they’re still having a positive impact on our overall health.

Below are five important changes that you need to make to your diet today, to make sure you’re looking after yourself.

  • Drink More Water

Most people don’t drink nearly enough water every day. The vast majority of us fall very short of what we should be drinking. Medical professionals recommend that women drink at least two liters of water each day, and men need at least three liters. If you’re honest with yourself, you know you can do better – swop that latte for a tall glass of nature’s beer.

  • Don’t Binge

Regardless of what it is, you shouldn’t binge (except for maybe Netflix if it’s raining outside…). When you starve your body of something for a while and then suddenly consume a lot of it in a short period, it sends shockwaves throughout your body and puts you in a bad mood. Remember to consume in moderation to improve your mood and your health, including cheat meals.

  • Include Antioxidants

Include antioxidants in your diet because these are your body’s first line of defense against free radicals. Don’t think that living a healthy life will stop you from having free radicals missioning around your body; healthy habits, like exercise, are one of the biggest causes of free radicals. They’re not bad by themselves in moderation, but having too many is not good, and antioxidants can help with that.

  • Choose Good Fats

Good fats are in things like nuts, avocados, and olive oil. Avoid butter when cooking and baking and choose liquid vegetable oils instead. Increase your consumption of omega fats by cutting back on red meats and dairy and choosing healthier fats like fish instead.

  • Eat More Fiber

As adults, we should be consuming around 30 grams of fiber every day. Fiber helps to keep our digestive systems functioning optimally and can drastically reduce bloating and gas. Most adults in America are consuming just under half this recommended daily amount, which is why there are so many supplements on the market.

Add more fiber into your diet by eating whole-food carbs, vegetables, popcorn, and chia seeds. High fiber foods can promote weight loss, lower blood sugar levels, and prevent constipation.

To End

Once we learn to eat to fuel our bodies instead of flood them, we’ll become a healthier and happier species. There is no major secret or trick to living a healthy life; all it takes is making healthier choices every day.
