I doubt you will ever see a TV drama where an emergency room doctor bursts through the emergency room doors to treat posture problems ordering “Strong posture, stat!” However, posture has a dramatic effect on your health and how you age.
Posture is how you balance your body. Your posture is either, balanced, aligned and non injurious or imbalanced, misaligned and causing injury, disability and disease over time. Age is Not the Cause of Posture Problems
Aging and degenerative changes to your body structure are not synonymous. If you think your aches and pains are from aging, you may be wrong. If your left knee hurts, ask yourself this: “How old is my right knee?” If age were the culprit, both knees would hurt and degenerate equally. They are both the same age. Age is not the problem. It is dysfunction over time that is the problem. Poor biomechanical function over time causes a degenerative cycle that routinely ends in disability, disease and premature death.

This cycle starts at an early age with weak posture. Weak posture is the opposite of StrongPosture®. Weak posture- whether sitting or standing, static or in motion-decreases blood and oxygen to all tissues of the body. This decrease of blood and oxygen leads to increased tension which leads to increased fatigue. Stiffness slowly begins to set in to joints and muscles. Without fanfare, we lose range of motion. The grinding joints of the body create wear and tear that results in degeneration.
Eventually this process begins to hurt. We ask, “Why do I hurt? I didn’t do anything.” We think maybe it will just go away. The human body has an amazing capacity to heal and adapt. We now suffer from the pathology of our own body having to constantly repair itself.
We go from hurting to literally being hurt. The cycle of weak posture and poor mechanical function has injured us and caused disability with age. We continue to blame age and often say “don’t get old” when this insidious process actually started when we were young. Now in the hospital, for whatever conditions your weak posture and other injurious lifetime habits have caused, a medical doctor orders tests. You test positive for some condition that started with weak posture.
