Anti-Aging by Cara Paden, CPEP

Have you ever seen an older person who is hunched over? They look old; most people do not want to look old and they do not know how to prevent the hunched over look. Posture exercises are very benefical in preventing bad posture as we age, preventing the hunched over look.

Having poor posture and not correcting it as we age can cause more problems than just being slumped over. As people begin to age gravity and weak muscles cause the body to rotate into a forward flexion position. This position compresses the organs that make up the cardiovascular, respitory and digestive systems. After long periods of time of being compressed, disease start to set in these organ systems. Starting posture exercises early can be a great anti-aging tool. Not only will doing posture exercises prevent slumping over it will also increase mobility, flexibilty and balance. All of those are very important in staying healthy and feeling young.

In conclusion, strengthening the muscles that create healthy posture will allow the body to function at maximum potential. Allowing the body to grow old and breakdown will create a domino effect of disease. Healthy, stong posture will have a positive effect on the muskuloskeletal system and the crucial organs it surrounds. Aging is inevitable and cannot be stopped, but aging healthy is a way to prevent the negative effects aging can have on a person’s body.
