Chiropractic in 2015
A respected think-tank, the Institute for Alternative Futures (IAF), has projected four possible scenarios for our profession over the next 10 years. I was excited on reading the report because the third IAF scenario nearly parallels my vision of where our profession can be in 2015.
The IAF was commissioned by NCMIC to study the chiropractic profession, and they did an absolutely fantastic job of factoring in the myriad of factors which will affect the future of chiropractic.
Straight and mixer philosophies, managed care and cash practice economics, evidenced based care and integration with mainstream medicine are all addressed and different scenarios drawn. I especially like the IAF insights into Aging Baby Boomers and Chiropractic (which parallel some of the ideas discussed in my October 2004 article, Chiropractic can be the Magic Bullet for Aging Baby Boomers ).
Chiropractic can indeed become the vital link in 21st century wellness biomechanics for aging Baby Boomers. However, we must gain greater cultural authority not only with our patients, but with the media and the public at large, which means understanding where we are today. The report is somewhat long at 114 pages, but it is well worth downloading, printing out and reading if you are concerned about our professions future
