Once upon a time (say in George Washington's day) a person’s life expectancy
was 35 or 40 years. If we look at

raising babies and thereby replacing ourselves in the gene pool, we are nothing
but a drain on food and other resources (in this, as in many things, I do not
personally agree with mother nature). In life, we can (sometimes) choose our
actions, but we cannot choose our consequences.
